The whole world is a buzz with the news that Google is to create its very own operating system. Taking inspiration for its name from its popular Chrome web browser, the OS will provisionally be called Chrome OS.

The intial target for the operating system will be notebooks, promising to be smooth and easy to use like their popular Android software, that is already used on their mobile phone. The OS also has the potential to become open-source, allowing for developers from around the world to contribute to its ongoing development and expansion. Taken directly from the official Google blog:

Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. We’re designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don’t have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work.

For some technical info, the Chrome OS will be running on x86 and ARM chips to allow for use on multiple notebooks. In terms of software architecture, Chrome OS will be looking to run a windowing system on top of a Linux based kernel.

Although we will be looking at a 2010 launch timeframe, this exciting news from Google will probably have Microsoft shaking in their boots. You can read the full story here.

Although we may have to wait a while over here in the UK, lucky shoppers in New York City were amongsts the first people to buy the new iPhone 3G S from Apple.

According to reports, over 300 people were stood waiting by the store on 5th Avenue, with some fans having waited from late on Thursday to get their hands on the must have mobile phone.

Some of the features of the iPhone 3G S include

2x faster web browsing and app launching

Built in video camera

Voice control functionality

Spotlight search

Built in compass

The much wanted cut and paste functionality

And a bucket load of new updates a bug fixes

Although i do like the features added to the new iPhone, the price tag still makes me want to hold out a little while for things to drop. The 16-GB iPhone 3G S can be bought for $199 (around £120), with the 32-GB version costing $299 (£180) .

I’ve always wanted one of those jetpacks you see in movies or cartoons, but its quite hard to believe that they exist. However thrill seeking Eric Scott has rekindled that excitement for the the rest of the world and set a new Guinness World record whilst he was doing it.

At a whopping 68mph, which was verified by a police speed gun, Eric is officially the fastest man to ever use a jetpack.

Made famous by the Bond film Thunderball in the 60’s, the jetpack is propelled by a similar hydrogen peroxide used in the original film. This allowed the daredevil around 30 seconds of flying time, which was enough to break the record. Heres to the future of public transport – our own jetpacks!

Looking for work? Love Twitter? This latest job search engine seems like a great mix for many web-savvy or internet based jobseekers. Twitterjobsearch is a recent app that utilises the powerful Twitter API, which helps users search for jobs based on a keyterm and a location. And lets face it, any channel for finding an extra interview is worth persuing.

Try for example IT manager, London and you find a host of useful tweets that are advertising that current position. The engine works by scanning advertisers tweets, understanding certain keywords contained with them and returning them to a searcher.

The layout of the site is rather simple and sleek to use, it has a basic grey background and a Google-esque simplicity to it. Note that for some search results you get mixed up or jumbled results returned that shouldnt really be there, so you may have to try and few variations on keyword to find what you want.

The platform is no Jobsite or Monster, but it could be a great way for social media fans to find that niche job ad.
