I couldnt live without my laptop, i use it for working, music, video and socialising on a daily basis. The laptop has revolutionised the way we go about our day to day activities, and is gradually replacing the desktop computer as an expected item to own, just like the mobile phone or mp3 player. Because of the decreasing production costs of portable computing, the laptop is no longer a luxury item and they can be picked up for as little as £250. There has also been a large increase in multi-functional laptops, being designed specifically for gaming, multimedia, photo editing and the more portable notebooks for working on the move.

The continuing growth of mobile computing and the popularity of laptop computers has been attributed to many factors, but wireless computing has without a doubt driven laptop sales in the last 2 or 3 years. The ability to access your email while sitting on the train, or chatting to your friends online while watching the TV is too difficult to resist for many broadband users. No longer are you constrained to logging in at a desk and using a keyboard and mouse, everything is packaged together in one easy to use computer. The only constrains of laptop computers being battery life, having to carry it around with you and the obvious constrains a smaller computer may have if you require a large screen to work on.

How can you find a laptop computer that is suitable for you? I recommend shopping around on the highstreet to see which type of computer feels right for you, and to get a feel of what you might look for in a new computer. Will you need it just for emails and word processing? If so, a lower specification machine will do. Or do you want an ultra-high spec gaming machine? Clearly this will cost alot more, and understanding your needs will help you get the best out of your new purchase. There are numerous retailers that will often give huge discounts or incentives if you buy online, so if you decide on the model you want, hunt around online and find yourself a bargain!
