Creatures 2: Torture Trouble revolves around slightly sinister cartoon torture screens, which always makes a great setting for a C64 game. Creatures 2 is a management / tamagotchi that also goes under the rather interesting name: Clyde Radcliffe Exterminates All The Unfriendly Repulsive Earth-ridden Slime 2: Torture Trouble. Ill stick with creatures 2!
The main part of the game that was unanimously loved by all players we the hilariously funny torture screens. The first Creatures game consisted of side-scrolling levels, followed by these infamous torture screens. These involved rescuing one of your kids from a tortuous death in a crazy contraption. The machines require a little bit of forward planning, but were fairly straightforward. Fail however, and you’ll see one of your beloved children perish in a gruesome manner. The torture screens were so popular, they became the main focus of Creatures 2.
The torture screens were increased from three in the original game to six, and
inbetween them was a sub-game which involved bouncing the fuzzy wuzzies from one side of the screen to the other (stupid i know… but hey it was fun!). Following that are the 3 boss screens & a transportation bit where you have to transport the rescued fuzzy wuzzies from one island to another. This is a fantastic C64 game, full of character, quirkyness and humour. The torture screens are of course the best bit of the game, and mixes niceley with the tricky intermission games. The look and feel of the game is bright and breezy and is a strange balance to the dark undertones of the games underlying theme!
