Rumours have circled on Mac fan sites claiming that struggling Apple CEO Steve Jobs has made an appearance at Disney shareholders meeting on Tuesday. The Apple CEO has reportedly been re-elected to the Disney board, aswell as having his spot re-elected for electronics giant Apple also.

This caused a little bit of a stir considered Jobs didnt even make it to the shareholder meeting for Apple. Despite this news, these re-elections have sparked comments suggestiong his “hormonal imbalance” is on the mend.

Jobs who has been battling a series of injuries has had a large involvement with Disney, ever since his days of working with Pixar, the animated film arm of the media giant.

Another announcement from the Macworld Conference saw eBay owned Skype announcing their new 2.8 Beta for Mac OS X. The new version can be downloaded from the official skype download page.

Continuing Skype’s commitment to rolling out new features on both Windows and Mac, the new update will include the following features:

* Skype Access
* Screen Sharing
* Improved chat management: ability to sort chats in the drawer and set priorities to chats
* Quick Add: much easier to add people to chats than previous versions
* Mood message chat: mood message updates from your friends as chat messages
* Large avatars: 256×256 pixels
* Hidden avatars in incoming contact requests
* Ability to add your own notes to contacts (if you need notes on business contacts etc)

Skype Access

One of the most impressive “new” features is “Skype Access”, a service that lets you go to any of the 100,000 Boingo WiFi hotspots and – using Skype – connect to the Boingo hotspot. When you connect, you pay on a minute by minute basis and the charge (which varies from country to country) is deducted from your Skype credit. There is no hourly or monthly fee for using the Boingo network, It is merely a way in which Skype try and increase their usability across the globe.

Considering that these hotspots will probably be only limited to certain busy areas in major cities, i cant quite see how this will take off – but will be useful to some heavy Skype users.

Screen Sharing

Another cool feature of the 2.8 beta is “screensharing” where you can share your entire screen with another

Skype will soon be releasing their 2.8 beta for Mac OSX

Skype user, this may be useful to demonstrate something, or even to simply show off your latest desktop wallpaper – i will update the benefits of this screen sharing concept in a later post.
System requirements
* Mac computer with G4 800 Mhz processor or faster.
* Mac OS X v10.3.9 Panther or later.
* For higher-resolution video a faster processor (Core 2 Duo) and a broadband connection with at least 384kbps upload speeds.
* 512 MB RAM.
* 40 MB free disk space on your hard drive.
* Microphone and speakers or headset.
* Download drivers for your webcam.
* Internet connection (broadband is best, GPRS is not supported for voice calls, and results may vary on a satellite connection).

The new MacBook Pro has been announced at the 2009 Macworld Conference. With only limited details so far coming live from the speech, Apple suggets this MacBook Pro has the best display they have ever made to date. This comes at a price however, with non glossy screens being an additional $50, or around £35.

There are however, some potential drawbacks with the batteries being non-removable but are suggested to have upto 8 hours battery life. This is however, only limited to a 1,000 charge cycle – or the equivalent of 5 years use!

Other details also found so far for the MacBook Pro 17″:

0.98 inches thick

6.6 pounds heavy

Sound like the new system will be a powerful unit, but with some limitations. View more live updates over at MacFormat.

Software company SeeFile may have exposed at least a part of Apple’s plans for the new Mac mini. According to a recent press release, the “New Apple Mac Mini hardware [will] be supported by revolutionary SeeFile web sharing DAM software.” The SeeFile software is used to build a no-fuss, digital asset manager accessible via a web browser and starts at $499US (£333).

However, towards the end of the press release, we find this:

Press leaks suggest a possible 1TB Mac Mini

“Complete bundled server systems including a Mac mini server with 1 terabyte of storage are available starting at $1,495 (£1,000). The hosted Web service will be available starting in February 2009 at several pricing tiers, starting at under $50 (£30) per month.”

We can only assume that SeeFile will be selling minis bundled with their software and not Apple. Many people use minis as home servers, and with the rumor of huge storage capacity of 1TB HD all but confirmed by this possibly unwanted press release, building a very similar, web-accessible setup should become a piece of cake!

I will keep you updated as soon as we hear more info from the Macworld 2009 Conference.

The illness which is thought to be a “hormone imbalance” has plagued Jobs for sometime and he has admitted to being ill for a number of months and losing weight gradually throughout 2008.

As the popular face of computer giant Apple, Jobs has already begun treatment for a supposed nutritional imbalance which may have caused his symptoms. Steve Jobs, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004 has been seen as “a little off colour” at talks, sparking rumours about his general health.

Only a couple of days left until Christmas is upon us, and if your still stuck for ideas why not try the iPod Touch. If you havent been pestered for one already, i’m sure this will be a popular purchase this year.

If you havent heard of the iPod, you must have been in a cave for the last 7 or so years. Released in October, 2001 the Apple designed MP3 player has changed the way we think about portable music, but also style. The iPod has gone through various design changes and is currently operating as a touch screen model with upto 32gb capacity for your songs. There is also a huge number of games and add-on applications that can be purchased from the Apple store, which add dramatically to the usability of the phone.

The player itself works with a multi-touch interface that can sense your figure movements on the screen, and selects the desired song. The initial set up is easy for both Mac and PC and works by by importing MP3 music files from your computer, which you can listen to on the move. This makes a perfect christmas present for boys, girls, young and old – it really can be bought for anyone! The iPod Touch is in its ‘2nd generation’, which has increased its storage capacity, stability and performance. The 16GB 2nd Gen Touch retails at around £205. I highly recommend this for any music, or indeed technology fan!

Imagination announced yesterday that Apple has acquired a 3.6 percent stake in the company, which will only cost Apple £3.2 million pounds. Imagination designs chip cores for a variety of applications, but its most prominent designs are its PowerVR cores for graphics in mobile phones.

The PowerVR cores seem to be of upmost interest to apple, and it is suggested these cores will power a whole new level of games in the future iPhone models meaning quicker, better and more advanced iPhone applications and games. As the race for mobile technology supremacy increases, this move by Apple shows their determination to come out on top.

The new range of MacBooks have been out for a while now, and as a Mac user myself i can only see the improvements as a positive thing. Speed, reliability (like thats ever a problem with a Mac..) and performance have all been greatly improved. There is also the ultra-sleek LED backlit display and improved hard drive capacity.

The shiny new 13 inch Macbook

The new MacBook Pro range also comes in the standard 15″ and 17″ editions, but at a price. The UK Apple store lists these versions at £1399 and a hefty £1949 respectively. There are some awesome new features however, which include a button-less touchpad, with “39% more room” that allows you to click, rotate images and files and manipulate with your desktop without using a stand alone button!

Although the only thing that concerns me is the move away from the sleek metal look, which has made way for the shiny, glass effect of the iMac range! I wont be updating just yet from my Macbook Pro, but when the time comes im sure it will be a great transition.
