She’s big-busted, petite, very friendly and she runs on batteries. Let me introduce you to EMA, which stands for “Eternal Maiden Actualization”. The ultra-geeky robot has been created by games giant Sega, who foresee a huge boom in the artificial intelligence market in the next ten years.
Sega, best known for its home video game consoles and games such as Sonic the Hedgehog have introduced a 15-inch tall robotic ‘girlfriend’ that kisses on command, with a target market of lonely adult men. Ideally created to keep tech-heads and other lonely souls company, this weird contraption which was released in Japan in September is expected to sell over 10,000 units.
“Strong, tough and battle-ready are some of the words often associated with robots, but we wanted to break that stereotype and provide a robot that’s sweet and interactive,” said Minako Sakanoue, a spokeswoman for the maker, Sega Toys to Reuters news agency.
“She’s very lovable and though she’s not a human, she can act like a real girlfriend.”
EMA can also hand out business cards, sing and dance which would be a real party piece!
The robot retails in Japan for around $175. Expect to see more weirdness like this in the next year or two! Maybe they can perfect the house cleaning robot?
